Aug. 31, 2016

Happy sunny day!!

Our focus lessons in Language and Reading today included identifying the steps in the writing process, identify beginning and end sounds when reading, and finding ways to correct run-on sentences.

In Science, we described each step to the design process. The students were given a scenario where they had to try and plan a way to solve a problem. They helped with drawing the problem on the board and observed to find what materials might help get food across the river.

HOMEWORK:
1) Math interactive notebook worksheet
2) Eng. p. 13

NOTICES:
- Math quiz tomorrow - practice ordering, comparing, and rounding numbers, as well as reading a bar graph
- when your child brings home a quiz/test, I ask that one parent signs the test by your child's name, and then return the test to school. They will then stay in a portfolio in the classroom.
- Sports Day shirts - we wear our sports day shirts on Fridays, but some students may not have one. Please respond to the Dojo message if needed, and we will get those shirts ordered ASAP.

Thanks for your help.

Have a great evening.

Mr. Y

Week 3 has now come and gone, and the school year is officially starting to fly by. Soon, it will be Christmas! Haha. I hope everybody had a good week.

After some quick sharing time about what everybody's weekend plans are, the spelling test was first on our agenda. Following the test, the students were introduced to choice in the Daily 5. They were able to choose either Read to Self or Work on Writing.

In Math,we rounded numbers to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousand.

Science was a quick review of Unit 1, corrections on the quiz, and also the re-test. The re-test was better than the first one.

I thank you again for your support at home, and just a reminder, please let your child choose what they want to read. It will keep them interested in reading. If the students start with 10 minutes for the first couple of weeks, I'll be happy with that, and then we can bump them up to 15 minutes once they get into the routine.

Aug. 24, 2016

It was another beautiful day outside, and our Talented Third Graders enjoyed their time during recess and PE.

In the homeroom we had a busy start to the day as we continued to learn more Daily 5 routines. They are almost ready to begin doing the Daily 5 on their own, we just need a few more days of practice. Our focus lessons in Language and Reading today were: tune into interesting words, subjects of sentences, and reviewing how to Read to Someone.

In Science, we reviewed yesterday's quiz, and prepared for a re-quiz that will happen on Thursday. Please read your Dojo message that explains a little more.

During ECA, the students were in the gym with Sister Heart for Campus Ministry as the teachers had a Professional Development (PD) meeting. Congrats on the Blue Team for winning the activity.

HOMEWORK:
1) English p. 9
2) Journeys worksheet - please fill in the main characters, setting, and use at least 4 sentences when re-telling the plot of "A Fine, Fine, School"

NOTICES:

- Tissues! Tissues! Please. The students are using tissues, and we still haven't received a pack of tissues from each student. As a reminder, a pack includes anywhere from 10-16 tissues. If you bring a pack of 10, that would be great, and we would have plenty for the rest of the year. Thanks for your help.

Have a splendid evening!
