Oct. 11, 2016: Tuesday
It was indeed a short time to have with the students today. But in that short time we still shared what we did over the long weekend (which wasn't much thanks to the rain).
Once we settled in, the students completed their Language Arts and Science final exams.
We managed to find some extra time to return library books and get new ones since we couldn't do it yesterday.
FINAL EXAMS:
tomorrow - Social Studies and Math
Thursday - Reading and Phonics
NOTICES:
- tomorrow is the same deal as today - Exams in the morning and dismissal at 11:45am
- the students have taken home a form that needs to be completed and returned to school as soon as possible. It is in regards to getting vaccinations.
- Friday is our first field trip of the year. We will be going to Puhu Shoe Factory after lunch
Have a great day!

Oct. 7, 2016: Friday
This was the last teaching day of the first quarter. All that's left now is a couple days of exams and a field trip.
This morning the students had a spelling test. Following the test we reviewed the concepts we learned in the Daily 5, Cafe menu, English text (nouns, sentences), and a personal narrative.
Math was time for playing games. We played all different kinds of games that helped the students to review place value, rounding, addition, and money. Students rotated around to play a game from each unit and also had a different partner for each game. It was great to see the students working so well with each other. Awesome job, students!

In Science we played a Jeopardy game with questions from the content we learned so far this year.
It was great to see all the students wearing their house shirts today. The lunch room was very colorful.

HOMEWORK:
1) Reading Log
2) Think Tac Toe - this does not need to be completed for homework, however, it is a good way to study for parts of your exams. If you complete a square, I will give you 2 Dojo points! If you make a line like the real Tic Tac Toe game, I will give you 10 Dojo points! You can hand in this homework on Wednesday.
3) Study, study, study, but remember to take some breaks and enjoy the long weekend as well. Don't forget to relax a little.
IMPORTANT NOTICES:
- Exams will begin shortly after morning prayers, so please have your child arrive to school before 8:30am
- Exams on Tuesday: Language Arts and Science (after writing the LA exam, we will take a short study break, have recess, and then write the Science exam).
- REMINDER - students have a half day of school on Tuesday and Wednesday - please make arrangements to have your child picked up at 11:45am.
- on Tuesday, please bring your notebooks, textbooks, and workbooks for Science and LA. Please leave your SS and Math books at home.
- Wednesday exams: Social Studies and Math
- Thursday exam: Reading and Phonics
- Friday - we will have Show and Tell, please bring anything you want that can fit in your back pack and is not alive. We will also have our Field Trip to the shoe factory in the afternoon.
- Finally, please bring your library books on Tuesday and we should be able to find time to exchange them.
Please enjoy your holiday on Monday, Happy Birthday Taiwan, and safe travels if you are going anywhere.
Have a lovely long weekend.

Oct. 4, 2016: Tuesday
It was a wonderful day to start wrapping up lessons and slowly begin reviewing.

- Language Arts/Reading - The students edited and revised their personal narratives, made sentences with singular possessive nouns, made singular nouns into plural nouns, and listened to one more chapter of the Wizard of Oz
- Math - the students practiced their map and addition skills in a unit project. They had to plan a vacation around Taiwan and total up how many kilometers the trip would be.
- Social Studies - described the cause and effect of a growing population can have on a town, city, or earth. The students also gave ways that people can affect and protect the environment.
- Science - we went to the computer room to do some research on plant life cycles. The students are working in groups of two to choose a plant and research information needed to make a life cycle poster of that plant. They completed the research and began their poster plan.
HOMEWORK:
1) Social Studies p. 74-75
2) Reading Logs
3) Study for final exams - tomorrow Chinese, Art, and PE
4) Students can work on the personal narrative, but it is not needed. We still have class time to work on it tomorrow. However, if he/she feels like doing some work on it, then it's ok.
NOTICES:
- along with the final exams this week, don't forget about the spelling test on Friday. You can practice 3-4 words everyday this week to make the studying easier.
- PE day tomorrow so please wear your casual clothes and comfortable shoes
- please remember to bring in your Language Arts notebook
Have a nice evening!

October 3, 2016: Monday
Good afternoon, everybody! October has come, and final exam week for specialty classes begin this week. Next week will be final exams for the major subjects.
This morning in Assembly, it was our duty to give a presentation for Campus Ministry. Our topic was on Friendship, and the Talented Third Graders were great actors and actresses. They each got to show the rest of the school good ways of how to be a good friend. Excellent job, students!

Reading and Phonics class was right after Assembly. We reviewed the vocabulary from Pop's Bridge, read the story again, and answered many comprehension questions.
In Math, the students decided if an estimate or exact number is needed to solve a problem. They also completed some review work in their interactive notebooks.
Describing ways that people affect the environment is what we discussed in Social Studies.
Finally, in Science the students got to describe ways that seeds can be dispersed, observe different seeds, and discover that spores can also help some plants to reproduce. The students also got to guess what fruits the seeds came from.

HOMEWORK:
1) Math p. 24
2) Reading Pop's Bridge - describe 2 ways that Charlie's and Robert's father are the same, and 2 ways of how they are different
3) Reading Log
NOTICES:
- first exams this week are on Wednesday (Art, Chinese, and PE)
- please read the October newsletter that was handed out
Have a wonderful evening!
