April 5, 2017: Wednesday

Welcome to a short week, and I hope everyone had a great long weekend.  The EARCOS Teacher Conference was a success in that I learned many new things and hope to apply them to the classroom this year, as well as for the rest of my teaching career.

Today, after sharing stories of the past week, we read Chapter 3 of The Chocolate Touch. After that, we read about ideas to see what makes a good research report, reviewed vocabulary from Thomas Edison, and finally practiced using idioms. Today's idioms were: "have a ball" (have a lot of fun) and "looking for a needle in a haystack" (very difficult to find).

In Science, the students explained how the moon is the cause of tides.

During ECA, we did some catching up with the homework of the past week, Invention Convention, and other house cleaning.

HOMEWORK:
1) Science - Respond to Video - please copy the following questions in your notebook, watch the video, and then answer the questions in full sentences. Click here: Tides Video
Questions: a) Where is the location of this video?   b) When does the tide change the most?   c) What living things like when the tide it out? Why?  d) What living things like when the tide is in? Why?

2) Reading Log

3) You have the deadlines for all the parts of your Invention Convention. You may complete all the parts that are past due so we are all up to date. There will be a separate blog for Invention Convention full for more information shortly.

NOTICES:
- If you're looking for last Friday's blog, it didn't get posted in order, so you just have to find it on the right side of the page and click on it
- no spelling test for this week
- please continue to plan/work on your invention convention. The model is due when we get back from Easter break
- we do have next week off due to Easter break, so you can use this time to finish your model for the Invention Convention

Have a lovely evening!

Mr. Yaremchuk
